Every time we go away, we debate this question. "Should we take the laptop? Is it worth lugging it through the airports, digging it out at security, just to post a couple of times from the road?" So, this time, we decided it was time to make a purchase. A week before we flew, we bought an iPad 2. I barely knew how it worked before we left, so the question remained, would I be able to post from it.

When we were getting ready for this trip, one of our boys said "I can't wait until we get to go out for breakfast and order eggs." We do eat eggs at home, but something about ordering them from a restaurant while on vacation appealled to him. We make big plans for amusement parks and big experiences, but it really is the little things that they remember.
1) Stopping to take in the little moments. An hour ago we found a tiny gecko on our patio wall. We brought all the kids quietly out to see him. Then, a cruise ship just made its way out to sea past our resort. They were so excited to watch and take pictures of the huge lit up hotel on the water. These are little things they will remember.

We have traveled as a couple, traveled with our kids on our own, and traveled with our kids and other, like another family or grandparents and other family members. There are pros and cons to each of those situations. On this trip, we have traveled to a place where we have freinds to visit, another family with two boys, whose ages are not quite the same as our boys. This other family is spending much of our vacation with us, which is great.

Parents spend a lot of time worrying, and we spend a lot of time talking about what to do with kids while you are flying, how to keep them entertained, what to say to our fellow travelers if our kids get out of hand. But it really all starts with booking the flight. There are lots of things to consider before you make a final decision on exactly how you will fly to your destination.

I like to write these quick posts while we are away from home, because I think of little things that I will forget by the time we get home. Today, we are in the mountains.
We drove out yesterday afternoon, and spent a lovely evening fonduing in our hotel condo. The kids loved the long, drawn out process of the fondue, first cheese, then meat and finally chocolate. Let's be honest, the chocolate was the best part.

Some of my best memories of family travel as a child involve camping.
I'm sure I am not the only one who remembers roasting marshmallows,
hiking in the woods, waking at dawn and climbing out of the tent wrapped
in blankets, waiting for the fire to warm me up and the camp toast to
be cooked. That describes many a camping trip from my childhood, and it
also describes last week camping with my own kids. So, what is so great
about camping with kids?
Here is the final installment of Travel Tips from this particular trip. More detailed travel posts to come next week, or maybe the week after. Depends how long it takes me to recover. ;-)
I am a little late with today's tips. Why? No special reason. Just
starting to enjoy our vacation too much, and forgetting about work. That
is the point, after all. ;-)
Still in a bit of a fog, but confident we are settling into this
adventure, and sure things will get a bit easier each day. Considering
we have had very little sleep in the last 48 hours, we are faring
surprisingly well. Today's revelations?
Catching up on some family related travel blogs, and found some really good posts. Tips about Southern California, flying with baby, and sleeping while away.
One of the biggest worries we parents have about going anywhere with our children, and especially traveling to far off, unknown places where people may speak a different language than we do, is kids getting lost.
As parents, we all know that our number one concern anytime with our kids, but especially when traveling, is their safety. Having a well socked First Aid Kit with you on your family adventures can provide peace of mind, as well as exactly what you need when minor emergencies arise.
So, I continue to plan, and research, and make lists and obsess over the
Big Trip to Hungary in June. We are seven and a half weeks away, which
seems like a long time, but I know as we get closer, I will have other
things to fill my time, so I take every opportunity to get things done
now.
Today's post is dedicated to those brave souls who plan to travel with a
baby in the near future. Actually, I was asked by some parents to provide some tips to
ensure a smooth air-travel trip with a 6 month old. And I just happen to
have a few suggestions.
