I have said it before, and I will say it again...right now. One of the things I LOVE about watching Amazing Race and writing about the destinations on KinderJet is that I get to research and imagine family travel in places I would never come up with on my own. 

Case in point...

Bavaria, Germany

I have been posting about Amazing Race destination for families for a while, and lately it has been even more fun. The racers don't always go to places and do things that would particularly appeal to families, but the last few weeks, I have been able to research the exact locations from the show and come up with family-friendly reccomendations. Of course, it helps when they are somewhere like beautiful Bavaria.

Füssen - Described on their website as The Romantic Soul of Bavaria, it may not immediately seem like a family travel destination. But this is a medieval town full of all the modern family vacation activities (hiking, biking, in-line skating, ballooning, boating, plus much more) and all the health, spa and relaxing amenities that parents who travel with their kids need. 

Turin, Italy

One thing I love about watching Amazing Race is discovering new places to visit all over the world. And that is what this feature is about, finding the family friendly version of the Amazing Race destinations. Last night's episode showed the racers in Turin, Italy. I didn't have any ideas in my travel mind about Turin, so I looked it up. Turns out, I didn't have to go much further than the race itself to find some of the best sights Turin, Italy has to offer.

Museo Dell'Automobile Di Torino (The National Automobile Museum) - We travel with three boys, one of which is crazy about cars, trucks, trains, vehicles of all description. (See post on Daytona Speedway.) I almost looked up flight prices to Italy based solely on this museum. (Plus, it's Italy!) With the tiny taste we got on Amazing Race, and a quick look at the museums website, this seems like a must-stop for families with kids like ours. 

Santa Barbara, California

We are starting to discuss a California road trip, and after watching Amazing Race last week, my husband has decided we need to add Santa Barbara to the list of stops. So I looked it up. I love it when I find a tourism site that actually contains all the information I need to plan my stay there. What a concept!

After perusing the Santa Barbara site for only a few minutes, I am hooked. (Hello? Wineries and beaches? Who needs anything else???) Here are the things that caught my attention.

The Amazing Race came to an end last weekend with the racers returning to the US in Atlanta. Now, I am a firm believer in the idea that no matter where you go, you can find fun things for families to do and see, but I wanted to know, what would make me book a flight, pack up my kids and head to Atlanta? 

Well, it was a tough sell for me, because when I begin planning family trips, the first thing I look for is a beach. And then, wineries. And then, something the kids (and us) can't experience anywhere else. So, you can croiss the first two off the list. What can families see in Atlanta that they can't get anywhere else? As I perused several websites about Atlanta, what started to draw me in was the Southern charm. The "Gone With The Wind" connection would get me to at least consider going. And the other big draw, being that I come from a broadcast news background, would be the CNN headquarters.

Like many of the Amazing Race destinations, I wondered if Panama would be a great family vacation destination. But as I started to dig, I found that as usual, everywhere has something for families.

This week the Amazing Racers finish up in Denmark and head to Belgium.

In Bruges, Belgium, you may find many souvenir shops, tourists, medieval churches, fine art museums and cafes. You will also find a delightful ambiance as well as many sights and activities for your family to enjoy.

This week the Amazing racers travel to Copenhagen, Denmark.

Immediately, I can think of so many fun things to do with kids in Copenhagen! It is a beautiful city that almost feels like it was made for kids.

Malawi - Africa

As I begin reading information about travel in Malawi, I am feeling both intrigued and cautious. This seems to be the kind of place that would be amazing for a family to discover together. It is also the kind of place that requires the right preparation before travel. A doctors advice on travel to a country where malaria is a risk, as well as research regarding getting around within the country, and preparing in advance to reduce the risk of mugging, all would make a trip to Malawi a safe and enjoyable family travel experience.

Thailand

I am really enjoying The Amazing Race this season, as I always do. But what I am enjoying most is researching new, interesting, exotic places to travel with the family. And Thailand is no exception. Whether you are looking for a beach vacation, a cultural immersion or an activity packed experience, you will find what you are looking for in Thailand.

A brand new season of The Amazing Race starts this Sunday. It is one of family's favourite shows, one we can all watch together. As a family that loves to travel, we watch the teams fly to 20 cities on four continents, adventure after adventure, and we think "We could do that!" Okay, maybe we couldn't do that exactly. But it got us thinking, what kind of family fun could we find in those Amazing places?
