That is the question as of late, is it not? I cannot even imagine what I would be thinking or what I would do if my family was eagerly anticipating our winter getaway on a cruise ship right now. Would we go anyway, even after the devastating sinking of a cruise ship over a week ago?

There was a time, before we had children, shortly after an Alaskan Airlines plane crash, that I was booked onto an Alaska Airlines flight to meet my husband in LA after he attended a conference. I was quite nervous about it, but it was (understandably) cheap and we were (understandably) poor newlyweds. I am not afraid of flying, at least not while I am flying...unless there is an unusual amount of turbulence. But when I book a flight, the thoughts always go through my head, especially when booking with an airline who has recently crashed. What if something goes wrong?

Parents spend a lot of time worrying, and we spend a lot of time talking about what to do with kids while you are flying, how to keep them entertained, what to say to our fellow travelers if our kids get out of hand. But it really all starts with booking the flight. There are lots of things to consider before you make a final decision on exactly how you will fly to your destination.

The first thing that happened after landing in LA? We accidentally locked our two 4 year old sons in the rental van, strapped into their car seats, unable to unlock the doors. Luckily, we were still at the rental car agency, and they were able to get into the van, even though they did not have a spare set of keys! Fortunately for us, the trip just got better from there. It was the first big trip with these two boys, full of exciting firsts for them. Traveling with kids...challenging, unpredictable and worth the effort every time.

Today's post is dedicated to those brave souls who plan to travel with a baby in the near future. Actually, I was asked by some parents to provide some tips to ensure a smooth air-travel trip with a 6 month old. And I just happen to have a few suggestions.
